Justin Trudeau has been mocked online for using the latest sexual identities acronym, which includes a number, nine letters and the plus sign.

The Canadian Prime Minister, 49, tweeted this week in honor of the lives of ‘Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people’ who have gone missing or been murdered.

But the use of the acronym sparked controversy on Twitter with people joking that it looked like a typo as one wrote: ‘Headbutting a keyboard is now a sexuality’.

His tweet was in support of the annual Sisters in Spirit vigil, an event held on October 4, dedicated to raise public awareness about missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls in Canada.

Trudeau took to social media, writing: ‘People across the country are lighting candles to honour Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people who are missing or have been murdered.

‘We must continue to work together, raise awareness, and advocate to end this ongoing national tragedy,’ he added along with the hashtag ‘Sisters In Spirit.’

What 2SLGBTQQIA stand for?

The latest sexual identities acronym is 2SLGBTQQIA+.

It stands for ‘Two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and asexual, and all other sexual orientations and genders’.

‘Two-spirit’ refers to a person who identifies as having both a masculine and a feminine spirit.

It is used by some Indigenous North Americans to describe their sexual, gender and/or spiritual identity.

However, Trudeau’s inclusion of the acronym sparked controversy on Twitter with many people mocking the prime minister, joking that it was a typo.

British rapper Nzube Olisaebuka Udezue, known by his stage name ZUBY, wrote: ‘Headbutting a keyboard is now a sexuality’.

Other people got in on the joke with conservative commentator Matt Walsh tweeting: ‘Is that the actual acronym now or did his cat walk across the keyboard?’

Another woman named Ruth Hutchings wrote: ‘Seriously? The LGBTQ moniker changes every week. I have no idea what it stands for anymore.’

One man named Barry wrote: “2SLGBTQQIA+” Which language is this, please, and how does one pronounce it?’

Another Twitter user asked: ‘So is this “inclusive” group going to just keep expanding until it covers everybody except for straight white people?’

Meanwhile, one Twitter user wrote: ‘Why not just take away the 2SLGBTQQIA+ prefix and use the widely accepted word ‘people’ instead?

‘That way, every human being’s right to dignity is rhetorically safeguarded. Constantly evolving acronyms which include some while others are excluded is per definition discrimination.’

Vigils were held across Canada on Monday to honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, with many people lighting a candle in their window and events including walks and commemoration ceremonie taking place.

In Regina, Saskatchewan, in western Canada, people took part in a Sisters in Spirit walk holding white roses with the names of local Indigenous women and girls who are missing or murdered.
